The School of Computing and Engineering participates in the UMKC Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program through Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Telecommunications and Computer Networking.
Civil Engineering (CE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) participate in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program of the University of Missouri-Kansas City as part of the engineering discipline. Students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in civil engineering or mechanical engineering may select engineering as a discipline when applying for admission into the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program.
Research areas
Doctoral research in Computer Science (CS) of both fundamental and applied nature covers a broad spectrum from algorithms, bioinformatics, databases and security, to software engineering. We have excellent faculty who are active in fundamental and applied research, and teaching. Their research activities are supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and industry.
Research areas
Doctoral research in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) encompass both fundamental and an applied nature with major focus in computer, VLSI and embedded systems design, electromagnetics and mixed-signal systems, signal and image processing, electric power and communications. Along with teaching in these research areas, several ECE faculties are actively involved in various funded research projects from industry and department of defense.
Research areas
Doctoral research in Telecommunications and Computer Networking (TCN) emphasizes fundamental understanding of problems in today’s telecommunications/computer networks and networks of the future, leading to the development of network architecture, new routing algorithms and protocols, new performance evaluation models for networks, new protocols development and network security.
