One of the biggest challenges we face in today’s digital age is to design effective methods to store and analyze vast amounts of data generated by emerging applications. Such applications arise in domains such as ecommerce, WWW, life sciences, healthcare, etc. Praveen R. Rao, Ph.D. and his team of bright and motivated students work on data management challenges in emerging applications that process tree structured and graph structured data in centralized, distributed, and streaming environments. The primary research focus is to design, implement and evaluate novel algorithms and data structures to store, index and query large volumes of data. Software prototypes are occasionally made available to the academic community for training, education and research. Rao has active collaborations with engineers and researchers in industries, faculty members at UMKC School of Medicine and doctors in local hospitals.
