School of Computing and Engineering scholarships
All applicants must be admitted to UMKC and accepted into a SCE degree program to be considered for SCE Scholarships. All undergraduate scholarship recipients must be enrolled on a full-time basis (minimum 12 credit hours) throughout duration of award to remain qualified.

General SCE undergraduate scholarship application procedure
All applicants are required to complete the following:
- General SCE Undergraduate Scholarship Application (PDF)
- Statement of Support essay describing to the SCE Scholarship Committee your educational and career goals, how a scholarship will benefit you, and why you should be selected over other equally qualified applicants.
- Additional applications/documentation may be required. (See scholarship information below.)
Applications received after deadline will be kept on file for one (1) academic year; you will be notified if an award becomes available.

Scholarships for full-time undergraduates
National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) Scholars Program
Required major: Civil Engineering, Electrical Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering full-time student.
Other requirements: Recipient must meet the following qualifying NACME criteria throughout the academic year of award:
1) maintain full-time student status; 2) declared as a CE, ME or ECE major; 3) are a underrepresented minority engineering student; and
4) not currently receiving funds from NACME. Entering freshmen meeting these criteria may be considered. Up to 4 scholarships will be awarded.
Students will be afforded the same opportunities for mentoring and internships as those students who are NACME scholars at institutions throughout the country.
James E. Allen Memorial Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering full-time student. Enrollment in a minimum of 2 engineering courses per semester during award year required.
Other requirements: Incoming freshmen with 23+ ACT or top 10% of HS class –or– Transfer student with 60+ credit hours and 3.0 cumulative GPA to apply.
Careerlink IT Scholarship
Required major: Information Technology
Other requirements: 3.0+ GPA
Computing and Engineering Alumni Scholarship
Required major: Engineering or Computer Science
Other requirements: Top 10 percent of high school graduating class for first-time freshmen, or a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA for non-freshmen.
DST Systems Computer Science Scholarship
Required major: Computer Science
Other requirements: U.S. citizen with demonstrated financial needs as defined by federal financial aid regulations. Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA required.
Richard G. and Terry Hetherington Computer Science Scholarship
Required major: Computer Science/Information Technology
Other requirements: Any level student considered — freshman with ACT score of 28, or upper-level student with minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Hill Family Commuter Scholarship
Scholarship to benefit commuting UMKC engineering students by helping with gasoline expenses for those experiencing round-trip commutes from home to UMKC greater than 20 miles per day.
Required major: Civil or Mechanical Engineering
Other requirements: Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Transfer students must have applied and been accepted to UMKC.
Application materials: Include in your essay a description of your commute, including mileage, and number of days each week spent at UMKC. Applicants will be contacted if additional information is needed.
KC Metro Chapter APWA Civil Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Civil Engineering
Other requirements: Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above and must have completed 60 credit hours with a junior standing in civil engineering. Transfer students must have applied and been accepted to UMKC.
Doris Markham-Swinney Women’s Engineering Scholarship
Scholarship is renewable if student maintains full-time status and a 3.0 cumulative GPA or above.
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: Female student with an ACT score of 25 or higher. Preference given to applicants with strong financial need.
Yolande & Stanley Niu Engineering Scholarship
Required major: None
Other requirements: ACT score of 27 or higher or upper level engineering student with a 3.0 minimum GPA. Preference given to qualified Civil Engineering majors.
Mary Anne & William Osborne Scholarship
Required major:None
Other requirements: Student must demonstrate financial need and combined federal adjusted gross income of $40,000 or less, ACT score of 28+, cumulative GPA of 3.6+ (or top 10 percent of high school class for entering freshman); US Citizenship required.
Lee and Mary Louise Rankin Memorial CS/IT Scholarship
Required major: Computer Science/Information Technology
Other requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA (high school or college GPA accepted).
SCE Faculty/Staff Scholarship
Required major: Computer Science or Engineering
Other requirements: 3.0 cumulative GPA or above, and a graduate of a KS or MO high school or a minimum of four years legal residency in KS or MO at time of application.
Jerrald F. Stach Memorial Computer Science Scholarship
Required major: Computer Science
Other requirements: Any level student considered — freshman with ACT score of 28, or upper-level student with minimum GPA of 3.2 or higher. Preference will be given to qualified minority applicants.
Martin Ashton Swinney Memorial Electrical Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: Preference given but not restricted to Electrical
and Computer Engineering students. Any level student considered — freshman with ACT score of 25, or upper-level student with minimum GPA of 2.8. Must have graduated from a Missouri high school or Missouri resident minimum of two years with a GED.
HDR Engineering Scholarship + Internship Opportunity
Includes HDR Kansas City internship and/or summer employment opportunities (also renewable at HDR’s discretion).
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: Cumulative GPA 2.5-3.5, renewable pending annual reapplication and academic qualification; preference given to Civil Engineering majors.
Scholarships for first-time, full-time freshmen

addresses the applicant’s participation and performance, leadership skills, extracurricular involvement, and potential for success in their selected major
John & Phyllis Anderson Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: upper 10 percent of a Missouri or Kansas high school graduating class, minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
FIRST Robotics Scholarship
Required major: Computer Science, Engineering or Information Technology
Other requirements: See the attached 2011 FIRST UMKC Scholarship Description
Application materials: Along with the standard UMKC SCE application and essay, include with application one letter
of reference from a high school robotics team adviser which addresses the applicant’s robotics team participation and performance,
leadership skills, extracurricular involvement, and potential for success in their selected major.
Robert C. Harmon Scholarship Fund
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: Students who have resided in Missouri for two or more consecutive years at the time of application; must possess a demonstrated ability for the sciences; minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
Kansas City Power & Light Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Electrical Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Other requirements: ACT score of 25 or higher; U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident with preference given to qualified Kansas City Metro Area applicants. Awardee must maintain a cumulative UMKC GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Scholarships for full-time sophomores and above
Information Products, Inc. Electrical Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Electrical Engineering
Other requirements: Student must have resided in Missouri for at least two years at time of application; 3.0 minimum GPA; demonstrated active interest in student professional organizations.
Forrest & Joan Lowe Mechanical Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Mechanical Engineering
Other requirements: Naturalized citizen and resident of Missouri with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Western Chapter MSPE Auxiliary Scholarship
Two awards issued annually
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Scholarships for full-time juniors and above
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Kansas City Section Civil Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Civil Engineering
Other requirements: Full-time junior, senior, or graduate status at time of application, with proposed status as either a senior or a graduate student during the academic year of award.
Application materials: Download additional scholarship information, scholarship application and the required documentation (must be completed and submitted with SCE General Scholarship Application).
Dr. C. Quinton Bowles Memorial Scholarship
Required major: SCE Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. or if a suitable candidate for the award is not identified among the Ph.D. students, the award may be made to a full-time student in the undergraduate mechanical engineering program.
Other requirements: Recipient must meet the following qualifying criteria throughout the academic year of award: 1) a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or above at the time the award is offered and 2) maintain full-time student status and GPA at or above 3.4.
Ken Clark Pizza & Lunch Engineering Scholarship
Scholarship includes 16 large pizzas per 16-week semester.
Required major: Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Other requirements: Student must be active in student organizations with a cumulative GPA or 2.5 or above.
Application materials: Must include letter of recommendation from student organization adviser and a one-page original humorous essay (topic of your choice).
Kansas City Association of Healthcare Engineers (KCAHCE) Scholarship
Scholarship to benefit an undergraduate student with a stated interest in applying his or her knowledge of engineering in the field of health care.
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above at the time the award is offered. Transfer students must have applied and been accepted to UMKC and be a full-time junior or senior.
Application materials: Students applying for this scholarship should address their interest in applying engineering knowledge in the field of health care in their essay. Applicants will be contacted if additional information is necessary.
Kristin J. Loeffelholz Memorial Engineering Scholarship
Required major: Engineering
Other requirements: Student must be from Missouri, Kansas or Iowa employed a minimum of 20 hours per week with a 2.5 minimum GPA, and active in student engineering activities.
Scholarships for graduate students
Mahatma Ghandi Scholarship
Required major: Ph.D in Computer Science
Other requirements: Recipient must be an international student pursuing a Ph.D in computer science.
Preference given to new students.

Some scholarships require additional application forms, essays and/or other documentation. Please prepare your application after fall semester grades are received, and submit prior to January 31.
