Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE)

The BSCE degree provides students with a breadth and depth in the technical knowledge so that they can work immediately in most areas of the profession including geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulics, and structural engineering. Because of our location in Kansas City, many part-time job opportunities are available for undergraduate students at local engineering firms and many of our seniors graduating from the program have one or more job offers upon graduation.

Admission requirements

  • In addition to the university admission requirements, students applying to the CE program must meet the following requirements:
  • First-time college students must have a Math ACT score of 25 and a composite ACT score of 24 (or top 25 percent of high school graduating class). UMKC will consider students with lower scores who have a strong high school GPA and a strong math and science background.
  • In addition to UMKC's general admission requirements including the 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA from all institutions attended, transfer students must have a 2.5 or higher GPA in all engineering degree applicable coursework and have completed Calculus I, College Chemistry with lab, and either Engineering Physics I or Calculus II, with no grade less than a 'C.' Transfer students may petition for admittance if they do not meet these requirements.
