Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)
Electrical and computer engineers use science, technology, and problem-solving skills to design, construct, and maintain products, services, and information systems. They design power-generating systems as well as electronic circuits used in computers, digital recording and entertainment systems, and automated factories. Computer engineering students focus on the interface of digital devices with users and the integration of hardware and embedded software. Cell phones, digital audio players, digital video recorders, alarm systems, X-ray machines, and laser surgical tools are all the result of computer engineering. The rapid changes in electrical, electronics, and computer technology and the diversity of applications require a varied educational background and a lifelong commitment to learning new and specialized information.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (BSECE)
The BSECE degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org, and meets the criteria for both electrical engineering and computer engineering. The curriculum includes significant study of mathematics as well as a broad spectrum of classes that prepare students in the fields of communications, radar, computers and VLSI, control systems, power engineering, signal and image processing, biometrics and robotics.
In addition to the university admission requirements, students applying to the ECE program must meet the following requirements:
- Math ACT score of 25
- Composite ACT score of 24, or top 25 percent of high school graduating class
- Transfer students must have a 2.0 at each institution and a final term GPA of 2.0.
