There are hundreds of models, theories, and guides that have been created to tell us how to be effective and successful leaders.   Many offer useful guidance and at least a little insight.  But what about leading from the middle?  What does it take to effectively lead in ways that influence those who are your supervisors and others in higher-level leadership and management roles?  In this interactive session, we will discuss findings from the latest research about influence and what we have learned about what it takes to lead and manage “up.”   After attending this session, participants will better be able to:

  • explain what research tells us is essential to successfully “leading up”.
  • recognize the importance of emotional intelligence in leading others.
  • describe how to gain and exercise influence when you have no formal authority.
