SCE Students Take Top Paper Awards

Shawn Herrington, (B.S.M.E. ’17, M.S.M.E. ’18), a current Ph.D. student, won the student paper competition at the AIAA Aerodynamic Decelerator Systems Technology Conference in June. His paper, “Experimental Investigation into the Effects of Geometry on the Glide Performance of Cruciform Parachutes,” combined with a stellar presentation earned him first place.

Celine Lim, SCE mechanical engineering student, received the 2019 best student paper award, 1st place, from the ASME 2019 power division, for the paper “Heat Transfer Enhancement of Phase Change Materials for Thermal Energy Storage Systems.” The award was presented at the ASME 2019 Power Conference and Nuclear Forum, Snowbird, Utah, July 15-18, 2019.
